Carol Alban - Flautist and Composer CAROL ALBAN PROFESSIONAL FLUTIST living in the San Francisco Bay Area Carol Alban is now available to take on new performing and recording projects. While she specializes in classical and modern classical genres, she also enjoys playing Latin, Irish, Folk, Pop, Jazz and other improvisational music. Carol is experienced, reliable and an excellent sight-reader. She also sings and plays the piccolo. Rates are negotiable. Carol Alban is a member of the National Flute Association and is the founder/director of the Fluteville Flute Choir. Carol Alban maintains an active teaching studio on the border of Oakland and Piedmont. See http://www.hometown.aol.com/flutesolo Past and Future Performances On Monday, September 12th, Congregation Emanu-El in San Francisco held a star studded concert to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Cantor Roslyn Barak was joined by San Francisco Symphony Conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, Frederica von Stade, Wesla Whitfield and Mike Greensill, grammy award winning cellist Emil Miland, flautist Carol Alban, members of the San Francisco Symphony, the Adler fellows of the San Francisco Opera Center and DAVKA. Over $16,500 was raised for hurricane relief efforts. Carol Alban's latest composition for solo flute, "Elegy" (which is dedicated to the hurricane victims) had its premiere performance at the Sept. 12th benefit concert and was very well received. "That was beautiful." said Michael Tilson Thomas (after hearing Carol perform it at the Hurricane Benefit Concert). Carol Alban has organized and performed in numerous concerts at the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland including the Tsunami Relief Concert which featured performances by Carol Alban with Miles Graber (piano), Patti Weiss (violin) , Daniel Hoffman with Klez-x, Dylan Snodgrass(piano), Nancy Tyler (flute), soprano Katya Roemer, Francis Lockwood (piano), Philip Gelb (shakuhachi), Suellen Primost (cello) and Katrina (Katie") Wreede (violist and former member of the Turtle Island Quartet). Some other past performances include Petchitecture, a very special fundraising event for PAWS (Pets Are Wonderful Support) at the Gift Center in San Francisco, Martin Lawrence Gallery Reception for Ali Golkar, Fort Mason Photo SF Show, the Berkeley Free Folk Festival and the Piedmont Jazz Festival. __________UPCOMING EVENTS!__________ Carol Alban will be performing at a Hurricane Katrina Benefit concert at the Julia Morgan Center for the Arts on Saturday, October 15 at 7:00 PM. Carol will be taking the stage around 9pm. "The Kindness of Strangers" A Benefit for Rebuilding the Spirit of Community in the Gulf States Presented by Julia Morgan Center for the Arts Let us come together as a community to help New Orleans and the Gulf region in their struggle back from the devastation of recent hurricanes. Proceeds from "The Kindness of Strangers" will go to the Southern Arts Federation Hurricane Katrina Emergency Fund to assist artists, arts centers and venues get back on their feet. The benefit features live zydeco and jazz, dance, regional food, drinks, raffle prizes and storytelling by the Bay Area's own Anne Galljour, a Louisina native. Let the good times roll as we help rebuild the spirit of community. She also performs with pianist Dylan Snodgrass, in a Duo with cellist Suellen Primost and in a Flute Duo with flutist Nancy Tyler.
