My Box, the new EP from Mic Rob is a tribute to his roots and experiences both in his native Detroit suburb of Mount Clemens and his experiences on the other coast.
A catchy funky blend of rock, hip hop, funk, and folk that includes fans of all those genre's without excluding any. Infectiously catchy tunes that you listen to on your way to work and hum the rest of the day or night.
Mic Rob is comprised of Rob Kershaw (Mic Rob, vocals/guitar) and Stevie Glasses (Funk Bass). Rob plays drums, piano, percussion, for most recording with Detroit talent filling in for live shows.
Mic Rob the singer songwriter is the result of growing up between the new money to the north, historic Detroit to the southwest, and the blue collar world surrounding the whole Detroit area. The early results of this came to be with Rob in Detroit area band Rolling Machine. With Rob as co-frontman and songwriter, Rolling Machine was nominated for a Detroit Music award and had success playing shows in and around Detroit as well as a midwest college tour. The resulting "folk hop" sound as Rob calls it took him out to California after Rolling Machine's demise.
Rob returned to Detroit to produce My Box. The result is a well crafted collection of stories with an inherent Detroit attitude and a splash of California charm about everything from the world south of the Mason Dixon to the party that is the SE Michigan boating community.
Mic Rob begins playing in support of My Box in Summer 2005 in and around Detroit with a regional tour to follow in the fall. While reconnecting with Detroit area establishements Rob has been greeted with warm responses, "I had no idea people would remember me from the Rolling Machine days." he noted. As it is word has gotten out that he's back and now the venues are calling him. A testament to the strength of his presence with Rolling Machine.
