Your Secret Will (Live)

Bandersnatch live.
Eclectic, and at times reclusive, Deckard Croix has managed to escape any major recognition by the public. Known (by those who know him) for his unconventional inclinations and sometimes unpredictable behavior, he wears his influences on his sleeve but makes it all his own. While his skills range from guitar and keyboard to bass and drums, he is also educated in music theory (counterpoint in particular), recording techniques, and various experimental instruments. A list of the many bands he has contributed to would be tedious (even I don't know all of them). The most recent being the band formerly known as Thora's Birch (now going by the name of Ho Pie), laughingly described by Croix as a "disaster". He is now currently unaffiliated. His experience as a studio musician has taken him from free-form jazz to avant rock. There are several spoken word recordings he has been a part of. One in particular titled One Arm by Yasunari Kawabata, recorded at a private artist gathering (attended by poets, actors, painters, as well as very few musicians) is over 40 minutes long. Always looking for new ways to expand his sound, he has also begun an experimental project called The Autist Cafe. What it is exactly I have no idea, he has been very secretive about it. - by Mara Freer
Band/artist history
Someday I'll have time to fill the history.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Main revenue = studio work (guitar, piano) for various independent/underground experimental artists. Also random local shows and coffeehouses. On rare occasions, a completely improvised avant-garde piano instrumental show.
Your musical influences
David Bowie, Nick Cave, Keith Jarrett, John Lennon, King Crimson, Tom Waits, The Velvet Underground, Pink Floyd, MM&W, Keiko Matsui, Nick Drake, Led Zeppelin, Bill Evans, Tal Farlow, Mingus, Yes, Throbbing Gristle, The Doors, Yoko Ono, John Scofield, Hendrix, Neil Young, Miles Davis, Wendy Carlos, Jeff Beck, Tom Petty, Wes Montgomery, Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Mark Knopfler, Seirgoe Mendes, Bob Dylan.
What equipment do you use?
General Equipment: Fender Princeton 65, Gibson Les Paul Studio, Fender Strat, Hofner Violin Bass, Ibanez AEG10, various fuzz/distortion/overdrive pedals, BOSS Noise Suppressor, BOSS Compressor/Sustainer, BOSS Tremolo, Ibanez Phaser, Digitech Flange, Digitech Delay, Ibanez Delay/Echo, and Roger Mayer Octavia.
Anything else?
Heavy in experimentation based on theory. A solo artist that has experience in jazz, rock, blues, and funk. Overall style is a combination of whatever genres compliment the song best. There's always a leaning towards unpredictability and disillusioning convention. Playing methods change depending on the setting. In the studio everything is planned out beforehand, in a live setting it's mostly improvisational. Plays electric/acoustic guitar (with a noise rock basis, in addition to using various bows, slides, etc.), piano (deep-rooted jazz style), bass, some drums, and various synths. Vocal style influenced by Lennon, Bowie, Bob Dylan, and Lou Reed. Writing style can seem abstract at times, but is easier to understand than it seems.
