Innocent Bystander has been around for approximately 3 years. The band has gone through some line-up changes in the past, but main members, Clayton and Wayne, have moved forward and remained strong. In late 2003 Innocent Bystander’s line up was finally completed with the addition of Joe Goguen on vocals and Justin Krem on drums. The band immediately started writing new material and reworking old songs, and by the New Year had enough to debut the “new” Innocent Bystander. The band played many shows over that next few months, gaining exposure and more importantly, experience. They also got the chance to record their 1st single along with other demo tracks.
In October of 2004 Innocent Bystander parted ways with their longtime rhythm guitarist, citing creative differences. During this time, the remaining members discussed the future of the band, and concluded that they would continue on as a 4 piece, with Joe taking over rhythm guitar duties. This not only proved to solidify the sound but also the relationship within the band. Innocent Bystander hammered on, writing more progressive and elaborate works, which not only showcased their individual talents but the talent of the band as a whole. When asked, the band states that they have a very diverse range of musical influences, ranging from classic rock roots to more modern day bands. Each member has his own unique musical background. Both Joe and Justin come from the heavier side, citing many heavy metal bands as main influences growing up. Joes crunchy, melodic guitar riffs and Justin’s heavy groove drum patterns mix well with the nostalgic guitar sound of Clayton, and funk driven bass lines of Wayne. All this together yields a fresh sound that can only be described as raw and edgy with a classic attitude.
