Abiabi Richboii Thegreatone also known as Richard A Matale was born in 1987 in small village near the capital of Southern Sudan Juba (Pageri). As a child, Richard was raised by his mother who also happened to be a well-known Gospel singer Tinyaa AKA her real name mum Laudina Tinyaa. His father was a graduate teacher and worked for many years with NTC, National Teacher College Juba, Yei and Kajokeji. Tinyaa became a single mother, when her husband was murdered in the civil war of South Sudan. Richard faced many hardships of family grief, poverty and sickness. With the loss of his father when he was 14 years old during the civil war. Richard was forced to become a child soldier fighting against the North Sudanese rebels. Due to the war he was separated from his mothers arms. Richard eventually was sent to Northern Uganda in Adjumani refugee camp (Mungula II Aliwara village) as an orphan. It was there as a refugee Richard learnt his love of Gospel music singing in church helping him forget his pain.
Abiabi came to Australia in 2004 with the support of his uncle Hilary Madra Ali. Many thought Abiabi was Hillary's younger brother because during childhood, Hillary grew up with him until they got separated during the civil war in 1990. When Hillary found out that Richard was being cared for by his only aunt Jane Aziku. Hillary decided to help support Abiabi in his high school years at Adjumani senior secondary school and try to get him to Australia.
Abiabi Richboii started his musics career early 2011. In Australia he became involved in dance hall music and rage music scene becoming known as Abiabi Richboii 'Thegreatone. His first album was an awesome hit gaining a lot of mention in many South Sudanese communities around the world. This motivated him to write more hopeful music. His first song was, Ide Kiza, which carried out lots of information about the problems we create amongst ourselves, and how love needs dominate everything we do, in marriage between husband and wife. Later he had other hits with Oca marugalu Ft Compo crew, Ndindo ft Wise Dg, JM Kennedy, D Kurt, MADI VIBRATION, Alutondo, Nina Roz of Uganda and many more collaborating with other Australian artists.
Richard always wanted to share his music from his experience with his meaningful Lyrics. His lyrics are about being kind, doing unselfish deeds for others. Being forgiving, helping others with smiles and most of all being thankful. Abiabi likes to spread his feelings through his humorous soulful Lyrics all over the world. For Richard being a singer, music helps him to connect with people from diverse backgrounds like his own. He describes his music's as revolutionary power to touch hearts and souls.
Abiabis style is a combination of Central African, rumba, raga, Afro Zouk and West African music types. In Africa he is also a member of the Musicians community coalition where artists use their fame to help and eradicate decease and infection. Richard endeavours to create awareness of campaigns such as HIV/AIDS and other sickness that debilitate communities.
Currently Abiabi initiates a service for helping people who are in need of assistance. His programs help people with impairments. He assists with programs for the elderly and orphanages since in 2017. He uses the acronym NFS which mean Never Forgotten Service. It means those who think they are Forgotten are not forgotten. According to Richard, It is his duty to share the little he has. From his hands as he tries to support people who are marginalised. He his music can be live streamed on Facebook and YouTube.
