This Life
We are a street punk band from Dover in the UK. We play our own material and covers by the likes of SLF, Sex Pistol, Clash, Ramones, Pennywise, Offspring, Dropkicks, Rancid, Dead Kennedy's etc.
Band/artist history
Bored with the offerings of chart music in 1996 and endless record company produced mindless dross being forced down everybody's throats, a group of like minded individuals came up with the idea of creating a punk rock style antidote for people who felt the same way. Jester played their first gig in Dover in 1997, pulling in a crowd of over a hundred people. The crowd were treated to an evening of classic punk covers from the late 70's, including songs from the likes of the Sex Pistols, Still Little Fingers, The UK Subs, The Undertones, The Buzzcocks, The Clash, The Damned and many more, leaving them with an appetite for more. Jester were born! As well as their own material, Jester play music that has either influenced them, or they enjoy, from bands as mentioned above to more up to date bands like Offspring and Rancid, Jester deliver with a big modern sound. Jester entertain both musically and visually by involving the crowd with their interactive live performance. The sheer energy of their performances ensures packed audiences at every venue they appear at.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We play all over England. We have played in France and are planning to play in Germany. We have headlined The Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone to over 620 people in 2002.
Your musical influences
Sex Pistol, The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers, The Offspring, Greenday, Dead Kennedy's, UK Subs, GBH, The Exploited, Dropkick Murphys, Rancid, Ramones, Buzzcocks, Skids, Motorhead, Vice Squad, Cockney Rejects, Blink 182, Pennywise
Anything else?
2001 Was a big turning point in the evolution of Jester. Twice headlining at the Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone, with a crowd in excess of five hundred people on both occasions. They also supported Bad Manners at the Legion, Aylesham in August 01. Jester were now appealing to a much larger audience, of every age group. This culminated in the release of their CD 'Down with the Clown' in September. An album of self penned all original material was a departure from the covers for which the band had become known. The CD received rave reviews from the press. This led to Jester being signed to Peoplesound.com. However, due to the merger of Vitaminic and Peoplesound and the subsequent trouble that ensued and further to the increasing interest in Jester from across the pond, Jester decided to move their on line CD sales & promotion to the big one in the USA at www.mp3.com . Jester have already enjoyed feature placement in the Alternative and punk charts on mp3 and now have a world-wide audience to abuse! 2002 Saw Jester make their debut appearance on National Satellite Television in April with an appearance on Showcase TV on the Sky Men & Motors channel. The appearances are still being repeated on the Showcase TV channel to this date. Further headline gigs at The Leas Cliff Hall followed with a record 620 people attending on September 7th. 2003 Promises to be another great year for Jester. There are many great gigs already being booked with a headline slot at the Armada Open Air Bike Festival at Sellindge in Kent on Saturday 28th June. 2004 New Album "Corruption" release on May 1st 2004. On line promotion switched to Soundclick.com now MP3 is no more!! Hello Soundclick goodbye MP3... Our Sky TV sessions have been included on a 3 disk punk DVD box set called "Raw Punk - Total Bollox" alongside the likes of Sham 69, UK Subs, Tenpole Tudor and the Anti Nowhere League. Available at all major outlets. Fame at last (ha! ha!). DVD's are available seperately. 2005 Played the Leas Cliff Hall, Folkestone again with MORE THAN NORMAL and T.A.R. on January 28th to 570 people! Another cracking gig. Jester supported PETER AND THE TEST TUBE BABIES, the UK SUBS, GBH, DRONGOS FOR EUROPE and THE ANTI NOWHERE LEAGUE During the year. All thanks to their excellent new agent: Chaos Agency. 2006 to present It has already been a busy year seeing Jester play in Lancaster and many other places. This year has already seen a some change. Unfortunately, due to personal reasons Terry Vincent our energetic bass player has had to take a break from the band. However, all is not lost and Steve McCann has joined on guitar with Stuart moving to the bass. To view pictures of the new line up see the official Jester website. November 2009 sees the return to Jester of Terry Vincent on Bass Guitar with Stuart swapping back to Rhythm Guitar returning the band to the line-up that recorded the last studio album Corruption in 2004. 2010 see the band stop playing regularly due to Kelvin moving county within UK due to work commitments. 2019 We are pleased to announce that Jester will be headlining a memorial gig in memory of their drummer, Neil Martin, who sadly passed away in December 2018. Neil performed with Jester for over 14 years, then went on to play with The Remains and Health Warning until he was diagnosed with cancer early last year. He made so many friends performing and attending gigs around Kent (and beyond), & this is an opportunity for all those that knew him on the gig scene to get together and raise a glass. All profits raised from this event will be donated to the Pilgrims Hospice, for the outstanding end of life care they provided for Neil, and for other loved ones close to the bands in recent years. Alongside Jester, Neil’s friends, family & former band mates will be performing at the gig, including The Remains, Hands Up and Health Warning https://www.facebook.com/Health-Warning-651390275274497/ To donate to Pilgrims Hospice- https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Neil-Martin-punk-rock-for-charity?utm_campaign=lc_frp_share_transaction_fundraiser_page_donation_received_-_nth_donation&utm_content=051b3be1-5b31-4391-bea8-4c058637d242&utm_medium=email&utm_source=postoffice&utm_term=1564659300050&fbclid=IwAR1rLmE-uiqslE59Fg3OIE1vMoz_66SpE2WbhdtoauPlb_W9p1OidiEvBwY
