Hailing from all reaches of the globe and re-born in the shifting tides of the Oceanus, Across The Latitudes is an eclectic rock-based collective who have migrated through the Chanel and up the Themes to 51.5171 N, 0.1062 W (London England), their new base of operations. Striving to prove that any genre of music or background of life is just another note, Across The Latitudes, aspire to submerge the preconceived boundaries of Rock 'n Roll by fusing Blues, Jazz, Metal, Funk and Classical music. Across The Latitudes endeavour to expose the calm within the maelstrom, the chaos within the gentle tide and the beauty and serenity of the storm it’s self.
Band/artist history
According to front-man Fluency Grey, the dream started back in Canada in 2008. Fluency had been working overtime trying to find interesting musicians looking to make a living playing original material and had found his search coming up short. Majorly influenced by British music at the time Fluency Grey made the decision to up-root himself and move 3000miles from home to pursue music in London England. After approximately 4 months he was introduced to Bassist Tomasz Biec from Dzierzoniow Poland by a mutual friend. Following a gruelling 6 hour jam session with Tomasz and Fluency both trading positions on drums, it was Tomasz’s opinion that they needed only a Bassist to complete their line up. During a couple months of searching for a Bassist the duo became more and more restless. It was at this time that Tomasz switched his main instrument to Bass in order to begin working on material (Fluency maintained his mantel as singer-guitarist). Practising where ever possible, including an empty warehouse and a local flower shop (the names of which are decidedly kept secret though they give a large amount of credit to the florist who admitted them calling him: Mr. Shadow) the initial 4 tracks were created and practiced. It was an additional year and a half before the rest of the line up joined. No new substantial material had been written and the duo’s future looked bleak. A friend and co-worker at the time of Fluency’s had mentioned in passing that her boyfriend back in Italy was an experienced pianist which planted the seed in Fluency’s mind about adding a fourth member to the line up. “I wanted everyone in the band to be the master of their own instrument, and I was really pleased that Tomasz was on board with the idea” Sais Fluency. Pianist Paolo Menna moved to London in summer 2011 and after a bit of coxing and a formally written band business plan arranged by Fluency, he agreed to join the band in November 2011. Still discouraged by their lack of a drummer and after a year of auditions Fluency and Tomasz began re-flyer-ing and posted ads on the internet, but were unsuccessful until they began approaching music schools in London- acquiring the email addresses of drumming department heads, pleading with them to send drummer wanted emails to percussionists in their respective programs. On February 24th 2012 Swedish Rock Drummer Amanda Dal entered the rehearsal studio to audition for Tomasz, Fluency, and Paolo and the trio knew instantly that because of her power, attitude and skill it was this 22-year-old who would complete their group. For the next 2 months the band rehearsed in a multitude of rehearsal studios including Enterprise Studios and RMS Studios before acquiring a permanent rehearsal slot at Amalfi Studios where the 4 tracks we augmented for piano, and re-learnt. 2 months later the band was plagued again by miss fortune; they’d been bought out by another group of musicians with more money and were once again ‘on the street’. A week later they found a new studio to call home and there they solidified the rest of the material for their first album. Excited to be out of the studio and playing live once again, Across The Latitudes is now accepting gigs across England, and can’t wait to show what they’ve got to the world. "We do play live..pretty much anywhere that'll have us, though we're concerned with making a living to a degree, we're a band who enjoys live performances, we aren't big fans of the studio."
Anything else?
A little bit about each member: Tomasz Biec: from 50.7300 N, 16.6600 E (Dzierzoniow/Wroclaw Poland) is a self-taught Bass Guitarist and the co-founder of Across The Latitudes walong with Fluency Grey. An ambitious and meticulous musician, Tomasz's unique form of bass forcefully wrangles the intricacies of Funk, NuMetal and Grunge in to powerful melodies that inspires the music with vibrant through lines of passion and strength. Amanda Dal: of 59.3300 N, 18.0700 E (Stockholm Sweden) primarily left 59 N to pursue studies in Percussion before joining Across The Latitudes. The Swedish danger behined the drums fuels the group with her intense rhythms and eclectic shifts to add diversity and authenticity to each new track. Amanda proves to the masses that the blokes aren’t the only hell razing hard hitters! Fluency Grey: raised at 45.4214 N, 75.6919 W (Ottawa Canada) formed Across The Latitudes undeterred after the failure of his previous 3 bands in 2010. The self-trained Singer/Song-writing/Guitarist has been playing the least amount of time out of all the members of the band, though is known for his wild stage performances and high energy, aggressive guitar playing. Paolo Menna: birthed at 45.4333 N, 10.9833 E (Verona Italy) joined Across The Latitudes in winter 2011 despite his credited and substantial academic skill. The perfectionist Paolo, is the 20-year-classically-trained-pianist of the band whose smooth bitter-sweet touch and professionalism instil beauty and longing in to every song.
