The first legitimate Wes Dodson studio effort was drafted as something of a counter argument in loathsome reply to the ever redundant, mundane nuances found in almost every local demo that he graced with a listening ear. Shitty drum mixes had to go! Eight minute long, epic, slow building power ballads in the key of A minor had to go! Why wasn’t anyone attempting to create catchy tunes that were over for the listener could fast forward though them? He sought to utilize the crafty fret board gymnastics, as inspired by Houston guitar god and teacher, Joel Gregoire; showcase that newly acquired, scorching Carvin X100B half stack! Craft a cynical/ humorous lyrical content, next to impossible to pick apart and take in any unintended context. Go to a smoke shop, buy the largest rolling papers available, insert one into each cassette case, then have the cassettes shrink wrapped. Check to all of the above. Cover art? No prob! An inexpensive investment in the Houston Chronical, a late night visit to Kinko’s, a pair of scissors, a piece of construction paper, and a glue stick and vuaah-lah! Instant logo and demo cover! The end result was Cheesy Drip; his 1993 debut, seven and a half minute long cock rock celebration that seeped into an unsuspecting Magnolia, Texas trailer neighborhood that fall. Cheesy Drip would be the foundation to Wes’ many musical endeavors, many of which that still reverberate today! In retrospect, an all-important niche that went without proper attention at the time were vocal duties. Wes had no prudent prior experience casting his voice outward in song, and his efforts here reflect that of a crude, less than soothing Dave Mustaine vocal grimacing’s. This was fast reflected on, and as 1993 drew to a close, Cheesy Drip would call it quits, but not before a small group of locals faithfully invested in Wes, gracing him with an accepting roof over his head, an almost never ending audience of party goers, and lastly, the purchase of a 4 track cassette recorder would afford him a never before means of creating via multi-tracking; opening new, lo-fi sonic horizons, and setting the stage for what would be a memorable, well received follow up to Cheesy Drip.
Cheesy Drip played one formal live event, billed as the Halloween Mega Mash '93.
This shameful, public debauchery transpired in a cow pasture, located within walking distance of the Texas Renaissance Festival grounds (near Todd Mission, Texas).

Soaking up the rock star perks, Wes would crash after the festivities in the back of a Camero parked next to the stage, complete with the luxury comfort of a space heater. This was more than a slight convenience in the wee hours of 01 November 1993, when the dew point dipped below 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
Cheesy Drip would host an encore performance following the sunrise of November 1st. What is remembered of this was the inhumane, brutal nature of the Hallow's Eve cold snap; being such that fingers could not feel the strings on the fret board.

A MORBID SIDENOTE
Years later, we would learn long after the fact that at the same time Cheesy Drip shook their p'tooties in a cow pasture, some 1500 miles westward River Phoenix would lose his life to a lethal drug overdose outside of the entrance to West Hollywood's trendy Viper Room.
Won't you take just a moment to sift through these maladjusted transitions that serve to validate a relative identity through music?
