To the band, Forward Motion represents the intangible quality of music that moves people. This same quality, as felt through the beauty of tension and resolution in music, seems to be what has driven the members of Forward Motion their entire lives, leading them to study music through higher education and come together in an effort to shape their ideas into reality. Friends from a variety of musical relationships rooted in many contemporary styles, past bands and schools, the members of the group fell naturally into place with one another. Performances with past bands include notable venues such as World Café Live in Philadelphia, PA, and the Webster Theatre in Hartford, CT.
Singer and pianist Alex Godiksen, who studied jazz vocals at The Hartt School of Music, has found a happy medium of personal expression through composition in his individual style, influenced by his jazz and rock backgrounds. After graduating from the University of Hartford and The Hartt School of Music where he studied Acoustical Engineering and Jazz, guitarist Andy Sorenson decided he truly wanted to pursue music and immediately took the opportunity to take part in the formation of the band. Casey Cormier, another Hartt graduate who is well versed in jazz, rock and blues, contributes his talents on both electric and upright bass. Guitarist John Brackett, who previously studied entrepreneurship and music business at Middle Tennessee State University, has made the same decision and is excited to move in a new musical direction. Jon Stotlzfus, a graduate of the Berklee College of Music, who studied drum performance and music business, has desired to form an original band and pursue music his entire life.
