As a child I was influenced with what I considered to be "Real Hip Hop." I was a fan of artist, such as, Big Daddy Kane, Boogie Down Productions, Marley Marl, MC Shan, Special Ed, Chubb Rock, Redman, K Solo, Audio Two, Lords of the Underground, and so many others. Like many I started as a DJ, or the kid that did the "Beat Box" for someone else to rhyme. I remained in the background of music for a long time but always felt the need to practice. Being a spectator and admirer of tricky "punchlines" and rap battles I learned more on speaking with a broader intellect when I heard artist like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Dead Prez, Nas, Tribe Called Quest, among others. I later teamed up with the help of Fred Beckely & David Williams, created Poeticmindz Productions which was really contributed to poetry but could not turn away the people who persisted to do hip hop music. It was created in 2001 and has expanded to become affiliated with others. I have also recorded my first CD as The Preacher "From the Pulpit to the Corner." I am also featured on Smokey Da Bandit's CD "A Wiff of Smoke vol.III" & his 3rd CD entitled "Neva Satisfied." I am also featured on Sole Tempest's CD "The Calm Before" which was also produced by Poeticmindz Productions. I have also collaborated with artist, such as, BIGG, Jimmy Bones, T.G.O., & Dawei. Along with this I am also working on CD with Indecipherable Speech consisting of BIGG & Jimmy Bones. As a group we have also created a music video for the single "The City of Lost Soulz" which was later spun into a short film titled Thirsty 2 "The City of Lost Soulz." This was directed by Smokey Da Bandit and Cornell Ford in collaboration with Dark Urban Symphony, Empty Soulz Entertainment, and Poeticmindz Productions. I am also networking with music exposure as far as Japan. I am also one of the co-host to "Tha Smoking Section" on BlogTalkRadio with Smokey Da Bandit and have also stepped to the plate to co-host The Unspoken Word, which is on BlogTalkRadio as well. The release of this show is yet to be released, but it slowly being drawn into play. Tha Smoking Section is more targeted to the Hip Hop listeners and underground artist along with mainstream music and The Unspoken Word is focused on poetry, news, debates, and urban fashions. I consider myself to be a fan of the past but more into an updated era. I love music for what it use to be, and that was the love of the craft itself. It wasn't about units being sold. It was about block parties and open concerts, we all know we have to be paid. But when artist are paid and arrive late or not even show up for the event is a great disrespect to the fans that have made you. To hear that someone loves my music or repeating my lyrics is a great feeling. And I appreciate that person. Music needs to about the love and power that we have to change things. Corporate America owns music and they control what they play, but we control the words. This gives us the power for what is heard.
Band/artist history
I was born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey and I have always been a fan of hip hop. I have watched music take so many turns it is no surprise to me that so many are lost. My love for music goes all the way back into the days of beat boxing and rapping and battling on street corners and block parties. From break dancing to doing graffiti on the wall. I have been in this for quite some time. I have always moved all over and experienced the change of music. From NJ to GA, from GA to SC, from SC to VA, from VA to FL, from FL to Japan, and from Japan to IL. So I am touched with bits and pieces from it all. Its been over 20yrs and I am still loving what I do.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I have played live and I am always willing to grace the stage for whatever reason. Whether hip hop or poetry. If it is a chance for me to get a message to a mass audience or to get a crowd jumping then I am always on board. I am just more picky now about the content of what I choose to deliver.
Your musical influences
My musical influences are the greats to me in music still. Dead Prez, KRS One, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common, Foreign Exchange, Lil Brother, 2Pac, Biggie, Phonte, 9th Wonder, De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, Q-Tip, and so many more. And its not like I don't like the south as well because I love all those groups also. Outkast, Goodie Mob, Cee Lo Green, Trick Daddy, Coolbreeze, Scarface, Geto Boys, 8Ball & MJG, and the list goes on... But I am just a fan of music. Hip Hop, R&B, Jazz, Reggae, Roots, Classical, or whatever makes me listen just for a moment.
What equipment do you use?
I use all types of equipment. Everything from an MPC, Fruity Loops, Cubase LE, Steinberg Nuendo, Wave Lab, Sound Forge, Sony Vegas, Sonar, Zoom Sample Trak, and more. I love hard equipment but I have slowly move over into digital. I guess you have to change with times.
