The earliest memory I have of falling in love with music, was when my parents played The Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel non stop while we were touring Scotland. After that... it was anything Rock... Green Day, Offspring, Metallica, Sepultura, even Pantera. Then I fell in love with Sinatra. It wasn't so much his singing as it was what he represented. His aura. His presence. I wanted to be just like him. So for a few years... all I listened to was Sinatra, Harry Connick Jr., and Chet Baker. After that I began to explore black music while attending Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Georgetown. Musiq Soulchild, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, D'Angelo, Carl Thomas... whatever I could get my hands on. At the time I was studying classical voice... so what I listened to in my CD player was very much different from the type of music I was singing on a daily basis. I continued studying Opera at the Interlochen Arts Academy for the final two years of high school. My first year I listened to Lagwagon, NOFX, Slayer... anything punk or heavy rock... but would then turn around and throw on Chet Baker's "My Funny Valentine" before I headed out to DJ a Happy Hardcore party on campus. I guess I forgot my DJ Icey addiction somewhere in there... anyhow. I like music. It's fun.Tolgar's selection
