My name is KB and I'm the alter-ego of Hypenotica. This music that I have created is very much an outlet for me to be creative and to 'de-stress' from my regular day. Honestly, if i could make a living doing this, i would, but i still need to pay the bills somehow right? Well anyways, a little about the background. I'm 24 and ever since I was about 15 was facinated with electronic music.
I had been a music junkie all through my adolescence and saw the rise and fall of a lot of different genres, but after listening to a compilation cd from a local store that including the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Orbital, Faithless, The Crystal Method, and many others... I was instantly hooked. I always found music to be my outlet in life, as I'm sure many others do/did... but listening to that cd for the first time took me to a new level of musical discovery. That type of genre had never been big where I lived in Buffalo, NY (the second biggest city in NY state) so there wasnt much exposure to it previously. But, I started to dig for the roots to this type of sound, and became a huge fan of Depeche Mode, INXS, the Smiths, and some other pioneers of the syth sounds.
After I began collecting as much electronic music as possible, I began to see and hear it everywhere. From loops inserted in hip-hop, alternative, metal, and everything else that was on through the late 90's, it occured to me the possibilities of electronic music.

DJ Battle: Hypenotica vs. Psycodelic
Apr 25, 2007
So this past weekend i participated in a fun battle of songs between electronica producing artists. I was squared off against Pyscodelic, a very creative dj that has a great ear for the smooth, ambient sounds. Many good responses to the songs that we put up and here is a sampling of the forum in which this took place: Song of Psycodelic: Inside Myself The link is http://www.sendspace.com/file/nfi22f or go to her profile. Song for Hypenotica: Spin Step Strut My song for the battle with Psycodelic is in my player here ===== DJ Alex West Tracks wrote: Ok you 2 did great! @ PSY - Your most creative track to date. I was very impressed by the breaks you put into the track and your percussion has come a Long way. You even added a dab of techno in there use techno headz must be rubbin off on yea. It had a lot of emotional feel to it and it was well worth the wait. @ Hypenotica - You have a strong sense for the Big Beat/breaks. Your bass was massive bro. I didnt care much for the more mellow parts of the track but damn son you could kill wit dat track witha little more banGin. But then again i am not sure what you were trying to acomplish sir. ===== Mungya wrote: Again, I am just so amazed! Two very different tracks, both would have a place within my library. Psy, u took me away in this song, great melody as always. For a beginner, I can say that u really have come a long way. So very proud. Hypno, bangin' is the word. Would love to see u take some time with this tune. I think it has the makings of something big, really ==== Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient wrote: @Hypenotica - Big beat is right. And man, that bassline reminds me of something that I just can't put a finger on. I want to say Final Cut, but I could be wrong. Nice work with all the blips and beeps. @Psycodelic - Smooth and wispy. Very girly. ;-) Reminds me of Moby's Ambient CD. It sounds a little muffled, though, but it could be because of MySpace's crappy compression. ==== Diana West wrote: @ Hyp - I love big beat, and to me - your track definitely reminded me a bit of Tipper - at times. Which is a huge compliment because I love Dave Tipper. I like the track, and I am sure its not easy to bang one out in 24 hours. I'd like to hear it again after you've tweeked it and are done with it. Its got a great feel. @psy - wow chickie, who knew? LOL Your track was very melodic and flowing. I personally am into the harder stuff (most of the time) but I would add it to my collection for those nights I just feel like being mellow, and chilling to some wine. It was really smooth. You did great, I am sure it was fun to take your mind away from things for 24 hours huh? For two completely different tracks I think they were both great. ===== So there you go.... A few of the responses to the songs. Now its your turn to go check it out and tell us what you think!!!! And as always, thanks for the support! kb
Review of "The Getaway"
Apr 25, 2007
Thanks to ZallaNayver for taking the time to lend an ear. ZallaNayver wrote: Hypenotica wrote: take a listen to "The Getaway".. It's a brand new track for me and would like the feedback! Thanks. HYPENOTICA - THE GETAWAY: A very mesmeric rhythm, all eastern percussion and great skill - a pleasant mix! Once we arrive at the meat of the track we are taken to a whole new level, the nasty keyboard line is a real treat. Although there is a small area between 2.15 and 2.25 that I felt could do with looking at, it's a VERY picky point but with a track this good it's vital to not loose the momentum. 2.40 is a great moment, you know it's coming but it's still terrific. I did think that it would have been nice to hear the 'nasty keyboard' play some different notes around the 3.40 area. 5.15 is another nice moment, but I had, sort of, wanted something new to happen a little earlier.....in fact the whole end section from 5.15 onwards could be tightened up a bit so that each new part was repeated less times, the track would end sooner but stronger in my humble opinion. I realise that this might be overly picky but I just felt that this is a GREAT track that could be even greater, it is one of the most difficult jobs in the songwriter/musician/whatever's task list .... editing, which is why I also write 6-8 minute epics! Thanks for the feedback! i actually experimented with a few different endings to this song, including some more sequences in different key. But, with the overall tone of the song, it just didnt sound right. i'm sure i'll tool around with it more, but I appreciate the overall positive feedback!
A little bit more about me...

Hey everybody, Welcome to my page. As you can all see i'm very new here, and as well on the music scene. My name is Kevin and I'm the creator of Hypenotica. This music that I have created is very much an outlet for me to be creative and to 'de-stress' from my regular work day. Honestly, if i could make a living doing this, i would, but i still need to pay the bills somehow right? Well anyways, a little about the background. From loops inserted in hip-hop, alternative, metal, and everything else that was on through the late 90's, it occured to me the possibilities of electronic music. From there I tried my hand at a few different forms of music creation... from rock bands, to piano, to vocals, and now to what i think i really always wanted... to be behind the turntables and the keyboard and produce the sounds. For me, this music is an outlet for me to maintain my creative side. I truly enjoy it and my songs are always inpired. So check out the tunes, i'm always interested in feedback, positive or not. I hope you enjoy them tell your friends about the new sounds you heard from Hypenotica! kb
