Von, birth name, Tervon Graham was born on May 10 1983 in the city of East St. Louis, IL. An environment surrounded by gangs and rampant drug activity. Von’s love for music started at the tender age of 8. Music became an outlet for him to help cope with the murder of his older brother Anthony Johnson, who at the age of 23 was shot to death. A case of mistaken identity. An emotional Von, recalls, “Writing was the only way to express my emotions, my thoughts.” Raised in a single parent home in John De Shields, Von remembers being rebellious. The fact that his mother was promiscuous only made the rebellion stronger. Vonhad an atrocious life. With close relatives either dying or being incarcerated he often felt like the world was against him. Because he was alone, he was an easy mark for bullies. Fighting became a necessity and sometimes an outlet for him to cope with stress and anger. At age 10 Vonbecame addicted to smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol. His sister Tawanna played a vital role in his childhood and adolescent years. In 1998 Tawanna relocated him to Huntsville, Alabama so he could finish school and be in a more structured environment. Vonwent on to graduate from East Limestone High in 2002. During this time a series of events began to steer Vononto another path. His mother became very ill, his aunt Frances passed away and his sister Tawanna divorced. These events weighed heavy on his heart. In 2004 Vonbecame homeless. Tawanna coping with her circumstances refused to allow him a place to stay. He had to fend for himself. Vonrecalls, “We all go through things in life, but you should never turn your back on your family.” During this same year, Vonmet his godfather, Hayes. Hayes took him in and treated him like a son, educating him on life and how to be a man. “I never had a father figure in my life but God sent me towards Hayes and I consider him as a father.,” In 2010, Vondecided to take his love of music seriously. Hayes seeing his talent began nurturing him. Hayes started a record label call Gemini Deep South Records. “Getting signed wasn’t easy. I had to prove myself so I recorded a song called, Going Through It.Hayes loved the song and the rest, as they say is history
