Snaz Castro was born Lindsey Grist in New Bern, North Carolina and moved as a baby to the legendary grounds of Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn, New York. Growing up in the gritty "Do or Die" aura of the area in the crack era had a profound impact on Lindsey. Hip-hop and most of all, HUSTLING, was big in Brooklyn. Lindsey immersed himself in both worlds heavily, but the lure of the streets led him into arms of the law on more than one occassion. In 1996, while still a teen, Lindsey became affiliated with a rap group named "COMA" that his longtime friend "CrackMan" was a member of. Crackman offered Lindsey his first opportunities to record, which he did under the name "Snaz Boogie". Seeing fans and other MCs react postively to his lyrics had a strong impact on Snaz and he found the recording process to be highly therapeutic. He decided this is the direction that he wanted to take his life in and committed himself to grow as a rap artist. Unfortunately, as time passed and the other members of the group moved on to develop their other interests, the recording opportunities stopped, and Snaz was once again left with no outlet for his creativity. Falling back into the street life wasn't without its positives, as it gained Snaz many experiences to reflect on, learn from, and to speak about. Constant struggles with everything from family, street rivals, love, police and most things in between took it's toll and landed him behind bars.
